100% of King of the Hammers Finishers chose ARB Air Lockers over every other selectable differential locker

This past week was the 10th annual King of the Hammers race, considered one the toughest single day off-road races in the world. Drivers race against the clock in highly modified off-road vehicles specifically designed, engineered and setup to tackle the high speed desert driving and rock crawling challenges of the course.

On Thursday 108 vehicles entered the Every Man Challenge to have only 37 competitors survive. Taking 1st place overall and in the Legends class was ARB sponsored team Brad and Roger Lovell in their ARB Air Locker equipped Legends car. Close behind, Jessi Combs and co-driver Martin Castro finished 3rd overall taking first place in the Modified class, also running an ARB Air Locker.

The 176 mile 2016 King of the Hammers race kicked off on Friday and would claim 79 of the 110 competitors with 16 of the 31 finalists utilizing ARB Air Lockers to get them home.

ARB Intensity LED sponsored driver, Erik Miller took first place, winning his 2nd King of the Hammers title. Close behind, longtime ARB Air Locker sponsored driver Jason Scherer drove to a strong 2nd place after qualifying 1st and battling overheating issues throughout the race.

Fan favorite, Shannon Campbell, finished the race 4th in his ARB Air Locker sponsored car after spending over an hour fixing a broken axle shaft during the start of the 3rd lap.

Only 19 minutes later, daughter of Shannon, Bailey Campbell would cross the finish line in 5th place to become the first women and one of the youngest drivers to ever finish the King of the Hammers race.

Once again ARB 4×4 Accessories is happy to be offering a King of the Hammers contingency payout for the 2016 King of the Hammers race.

Contingency payout will be awarded to the qualifying winner of the following classes:

  • 4500 Modified – $500

To qualify, you must be running at least one, ARB Air Locker and two ARB 4×4 Accessories logos (no smaller than 7″ in width) or two ARB Air Locker logos.

ARB OME BP-51 High Performance Internal Bypass Shock Absorbers

Developed and tested extensively in some of Australia’s most rugged environments, these big bore, position sensitive bypass shock absorbers with remote reservoir are designed to be fitted without any need for vehicle modification. This design combines considerable ride comfort around town with significant amounts of end-zone damping for exceptional chassis control and handling off road. In addition to the velocity sensitive damping which used in most shock absorbers, where the faster the piston moves, the higher the level of damping is generated, BP-51 shock absorbers also generate damping dependent on the position of the piston within the shock absorber’s body via their internal bypass design.

This bypass design results in an ability for the shock absorber to provide the best of both worlds, a comfortable and compliant ride during normal driving and a more controlled ride over challenging terrain. With greater levels of damping generated at each end of the stroke, the piston slows as it approaches full compression and extension, preventing harsh topping out against the bump stop and allowing large bumps and corrugations to be easily absorbed.

Damping performance is easily adjustable across a wide range in both rebound and compression, allowing the user to alter the vehicle’s ride performance and cater for different road conditions and vehicle loading scenarios.

The body, reservoir and components are all made from aircraft grade (6061 T6) aluminum, with a type 3, 40 micron hard anodized finish, ensuring exceptional heat dissipation and resistance to corrosion and stone damage.

ARB OME BP-51 High Performance Internal Bypass Shock Absorbers

Designed, developed and tested entirely by ARB’s team of Old Man Emu Ride Engineers, all BP-51 shock absorbers are manufactured in-house by ARB. In order to achieve this, significant investment has been made in state of the art machinery and hard anodizing equipment, allowing ARB total control of the manufacturing process to ensure the highest possible quality.

Shock absorber and coil over assemblies will be competitively priced with vehicle specific fitting kits at an additional cost. These fitting kits will allow the mounting of the external reservoir in vehicle-specifc location, creating a clean and straightforward solution to a traditional challenge of other reservoir systems.

The coilover applications come pre-loaded with the appropriate coil spring and are adjusted to the proper height for vehicles equipped with a bumper and winch (heavy load). If a vehicle does not have additional weight on the front end, the preload on the springs can be adjusted to the appropriate levels. ARB recommends that this is done using the BP- 51 Spring Compressor Tool (VM80020001). Some applications will have side specific part numbers (left/right) due to the location of the external reservoir.

In North America, the initial applications of Jeep JK Wrangler, FJ Cruiser (2010-2014), Toyota 200 Series and HiLux 2005+ will be available late summer 2015 with other applications rolled out in the months following. Soon to be released applications will include the Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner (2010+), and Toyota FJ Cruiser (2007-2009).
